Rising from the ashes of both disco and punk music before taking on more esoteric influences such as Krautrock, 20th-century minimalism and Jamaican dub music, electronic dance music (EDM) has built into the major artistic and commercial musical platform that it is now.
Since the 1980's EDM's appeal has been steadily growing, birthing many small-scale EDM-concentrated music labels and is now so popular that there are many dedicated EDM festivals and radio stations around the world.
Taking on many influences from the world of music, EDM now has mass general appeal regularly making a large impact on Billboard music charts around the world and attracting a large number of listeners. Recently there has been a large surge of interest in EDM as new genres begin to evolve influencing more popular artists who help to bring new sounds to the mainstream.
